Multiplying Multiples of 10

Examples of calculations that are multiples of 10 are 20 x 60; 400 x 60; 3800 x 900.

To do these, concentrate first on multiplying the non- zero numbers. Then add on the total number of zeros you have in your calculation.

For example:

20 x 60: Do the 2 x 6 = 12 first. Then add the total number of zeros you see in the calculation ( in this case there are 2 zeros) onto the 12.

Answer: 1200

400 x 60: Do 4 x 6 first. This equals 24. Then add the 3 zeros on the end

Answer: 24000

3800 x 900: 38 x 9 is 342. Add 4 zeros back on.

Answer: 3,420,000
